This is the bottom view of 57 feet Gommateshwara statue of Karnataka, India, which is the tallest monolithic statue in the world. It was built in 981 AD, is dedicated to Jain. There are five monolithic statues of Bahubali in Karnataka which is more than 20 feet in height. The name of the places are - 
•    Dharmastala
•    Venur
•    Gommatagiri
•    Kumbhoj
•    Aretipur

Bahubali means the one with strong arms, a much respected and admired figure among the Jains. He was the son of Rishabhanatha who was the first Tirthankara of the Jainism caste and waa the younger brother of Bharata Chakravartin. It is believed that he meditated motionless for twelve years and in a standing posture called Kayotsarga and that during that time, climbing plants also grew around his legs. After his years of dedicated meditation, Bahubali was said to have attained omniscience, called Kevala Gyana.
